Costa Rica - getting ready - part 1

we are off Sunday !

So far trying to learn Spanish is not going that well, mainly through lack of time - but can't recommend the approach of Paul Noble highly enough: Learn Spanish, on Audible, which is straightforward and gives both trad Spanish and South American pronounciation. "You have decorated the house" - usted a decarado La casa - should stand us in good stead we feel! notwithstanding the lack of basic Spanish we hope that we will get by!

Mrs W has fallen easily into to role of travel agent / local expert / bargain hunter. the Lonely Planets as always comes up trumps with local knowledge and planning tips but this time multiple travel blogs have added to wealth of available info. what would I do without her ? Well probably very little in reality !

We are off on 27th Feb!!! Coming up rapidly. My retirement date is 28/2/22 but so far, after nearly 40 years service to NHS they haven't had the good grace to even acknowledge my application or tell me what we can expect to live on after that! I suspect that having outsourced Primary Care Support to Capita, no one really gives a shit! This isn't going to be a pensions rant.

One positive side note, I have finished my level 1 wine course and done the exam (!) - result awaited but I reckon I did ok. I now know my Alsace from my Albariño, my Bordeaux from my Burgundy, my Chablis from my Champagne, and before a few wines: my arse from my elbow. Very proud of myself! I imagine Central America will not be a great wine producing region as it's too hot and too wet, but hoping that California and ArgentinIan wines have made it there? we will see....

Packing is interesting - rain/cloud forest beach/trekking/multi centre/self drive ... rain daily 40-50% chance? But in fact it's very hot damp sunny and likely quite sweaty? no amount of blogs read can offer an answer - but really looking forward to escaping the Storm Eunice surges we keep seeing here in the UK..

Staying in to avoid getting Covid at last moment - passport renewed - loads of US dollars - huge excitement .... count down begun .... more from CR

pura vida!
