By the pool Hotel Nya Montezuma.
We left Uvita and headed 4 hours up the pacific coast to get the ferry from Puntarenas, Costa Rica to Paquera on the Nicoya Peninsula.
This is a great way of getting across from the San Jose area, Central Pacific, or South Pacific to the towns of Santa Teresa, Montezuma, Mal Pais, and Tambor.
We managed to arrive 45 minutes before the 3pm ferry and the queue was quite short, the ticket process simple, and the kebabs from street vendors delicious. Cold Imperial in hand, the soporific crossing was most relaxing. Deposited in Paquera just after 4pm we headed along the coast road to Montezuma, arriving with plenty of daylight left.
I have decided day time driving in CR is the way forward for me especially in our non 4x4 now christened "unreliable Bob". It labours up even the most simple hills and is, for me, extremely anxiety provoking.
For us the draw of Montezuma is its quiet beaches, forest, waterfalls and wildlife including monkeys, butterflies, and birds.
One of the things that makes it unique is its almost bohemian feel. Though small, Montezuma is a vibrant surfer hippie community. Adding to this, Montezuma has an impressive selection of restaurants serving food from all around the world.
Having the most amazing trip!
We are at Hotel Nya which is very much above average !
After much fun, probably too much to drink and certainly a couple of dodgy food choices, we rediscovered the down side to travelling. And what better named place ? Yes horrible. Travellers tummy bugs are usually self limiting, but do often provoke a lot of anxiety.
The key is usually to drink plenty of water, have access to rehydration powders, use some Imodium if the diarrhoea or cramps are severe, and rest. Aches and pains are common.
So, usually it will simply pass off but best to seek help if it's persisting day 3.
How apt that Montezuma wrought his revenge here! According to Wiki:
"Montezuma's revenge" and "Delhi belly"
Travelers' diarrhea (TD) is a stomach and intestinal infection. TD is defined as the passage of unformed stool (one or more by some definitions, three or more by others) while traveling. It may be accompanied by abdominal cramps, nausea, fever, headache and bloating. Most travelers recover within three to four days with little or no treatment. About 10% of people may have symptoms for a week
Usually caused by ecoli
Montezuma or Moctezuma II (c. 1466 – 1520), the last Aztec ruler before the empire was conquered by the Spanish. The condition is seen as “retribution” for the slaughter and enslavement of the Aztec people by Spanish conquistadorHernán Cortés on 13 August 1521
